BACK TO THE ROOTS: CLAY PLASTER IN A SLOVAK MILL
Clay plasters are nowadays used in the reconstruction of historical buildings as well as in new buildings
They are warm, pleasant to the touch, original and increasingly popular in recent years. In the construction industry, they represent a trend for ecological and healthy living, a return to the roots. We are talking about clay plasters. They are popularly used in ecological and low-energy buildings and in modern wooden buildings. Surprisingly, however, experts also recommend them for use in prefabricated houses, as they have a positive effect on the biggest problem of prefabricated flats, which is the humidity microclimate.

The range of clay plasters is mainly concentrated in the hands of smaller, highly specialised suppliers, but can also be found in the offer of the market leader, Cemix. The advantage of a strong brand is the top quality of the products, supported by long-term testing and development, professional technical advice or reliable and flexible delivery. The Cemix range of clay plasters is a complete plaster system that is absolutely equivalent to conventional lime or lime-cement based plaster systems.

Complete plaster system

The plaster system consists of a clay bonding bridge Cemix 4610, which ensures the adhesion of the plaster to the substrate. On top of this, a base layer of clay plaster 4611 (for manual processing) or 4612 (for machine processing) is applied in a maximum layer of 20 mm. The base plaster needs sufficient time to harden, the manufacturer recommends approximately one day per 1 mm thickness.

Only then can the top coat of 4613 finishing clay plaster be applied in a layer of approx. 2 mm. This too has a natural brown shade and fine texture. The plaster takes one day to cure to 1 mm. The fine clay plaster can be used either as part of a complete plastering system or as a finish for conventional plaster. Its surface is treated by felting and can be left uncoated in its natural brown shade or a system primer and interior paint can be additionally applied.

The work is easy and you will enjoy it

Clay plasters can be used on both unfired bricks and burnt masonry blocks. Many builders think that working with clay plasters is more difficult than with conventional plasters. The opposite is true, they are pleasant to work with and their application is easy. No protective equipment is needed. The material is easy to handle, smooth, adjust and maintain. Even hobby builders can work with clay plasters.

The reward is a healthy home

Clay plasters consist of natural ingredients, aggregates and clay. The main advantage of clay plasters? Thanks to their porous structure, they have a high absorption capacity and regulate the humidity in the interior very well. In addition, clay is anti-allergenic, can absorb odours and smoke, contains no chemical or industrial additives and has the ability to store heat. You can feel its heat-accumulating properties to the touch, as the walls are characterised by an elevated surface temperature.

People spend more than two-thirds of their lives indoors, so the quality and healthiness of the indoor environment should be a priority. Clay plaster brings nature back into our homes and, like wood, stone or wool, has a positive effect on our psyche. Nature brings us back to our roots and gives us energy.
