Cemix products, especially ground and lump limestone, are versatile products that are also used in agriculture. They are mainly used in the crop sector, where they positively influence crop health and contribute to higher yields. They also play an essential role in livestock production.

In the agricultural and forestry sectors, ground limestone is mainly used for de-acidifying the soil and achieving the optimum soil pH for crop production.

It is reported that on average 300 to 450 kilograms of calcium carbonate are used per hectare each year to neutralise soil acidity. The crops themselves use an additional 50 kilograms of calcium carbonate for their growth.

Calcium is a key building block for plant cell walls and is also used in photosynthesis. Adding it to agricultural soils therefore increases crop health and fertility. The use of Cemix products in agricultural production increases the yield per hectare while reducing the consumption of other industrial fertilisers that have a negative impact on the environment, especially on the purity of groundwater.

Limestone also improves the structure and permeability of the soil, as heavy agricultural equipment compacts the soil. The development of the root system of agricultural crops suffers and the uptake of water and nutrients becomes more difficult. Lime products are also used to control pests and prevent the spread of plant diseases, especially fungi and bacteria.

In the livestock sector, lime is applied to areas where farm animals graze to control parasites. Calcium carbonate in animal feed also ensures that livestock receive sufficient calcium, which is essential for bone growth and overall healthy development. In pond farming, the calcium supplied in calcium carbonate serves as a vital nutrient for fish and also reduces alkalinity in ponds.
