The butterfly Parnassius apollo appears every year on the hill. Its caterpillars need the nutritious vegetation of Sedum album and Sedum maximum. The adult moth lives only a few days. Only in sunshine does it fly in search of red and purple flowers.
The fact that hundreds of butterflies fly through the nature of Stramberk every year is an important indicator for us that we have succeeded in harmonising the careful and restrained use of resources with nature.
In 1881, the Viennese company of the Guttmann brothers bought the southern half of Kotouč hill near Štramberk, where they started surface mining of limestone for metallurgical needs. Back then, lime was also burned here in circular kilns, which were only replaced by shaft kilns in the 1950s and 1960s.
The LASSELSBERGER Group is a European producer of raw materials, building materials and ceramic tiles. Clearly structured into the three divisions Ceramics, Minerals and Building Materials, not only the local domestic markets but also many international markets – mainly in Western Europe – are supplied by the production sites in Central and Eastern Europe.
Due to the continuous extension of product deliveries to companies from different industries (e.g. glass fiber, paper or refractory industry), the LASSELSBERGER Group is establishing itself as an autonomous player that becomes more and more independent of the general development of the construction and building materials industry.
Market leadership in many areas combined with a production tradition over many decades as well as raw material reserves secured on the long term ensures the successful growth of the whole LASSELSBERGER Group.
